Will there be any excursions?

Excursions are offered throughout the year. Academic and English All Year students receive an average of one free trip every three weeks included in the fees. Popular destinations include Oxford, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Worcester, Cheltenham, Hereford and Gloucester. Trips to London and Manchester, as well as other cities, are also arranged at an additional charge.   These trips are often compulsory for younger students aged 16 or under.

In addition to these excursions the college runs a free regular minibus service to Malvern town centre on some weekday afternoons after classes for students to be able to go to the bank, main Post Office and some of the local shops.

Optional social outings, at an additional charge, are also regularly arranged to places such as Alton Towers, Warwick Castle, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Cadbury’s World Chocolate Factory, National Exhibition Centre, Sea Life Centre, ice skating, ten-pin bowling, Premiership football grounds and Malvern’s own theatre, cinema, swimming and leisure complexes.

Will my airport transfers be arranged by the college?

The college can arrange airport transfers for you, but these are chargeable. Please see the fees section for details.

How will you place me in the right class?

On the first Monday of the course, all new students take an English test. The current test we use has been written specifically for this purpose. Based on these results, students are placed in classes according to age and ability. If teachers agree that a student is finding lessons too easy or too difficult, they can quickly be placed in a higher or lower class.

Do I have to wear a uniform?

The College does not require students to wear a set uniform. There is however a Dress Code for students studying during the academic year whereby certain items of clothing, jewellery and general appearance are not allowed during the working day (08:30 – 16:00, Monday to Friday). Students are required to dress in a black suit, with an appropriate shirt and tie for boys. For students on a course of 8 weeks or more, a college tie will be issued.

Can I study some other subjects?

It is possible for students on an English All Year course to study join some academic classes subject to availability, suitability and English level. Please ask us about the availability with your application.

What meals are included?

Three meals per day are included during the week, with brunch and dinner at weekends. Additional items can also be purchased from the canteen. There is a choice of hot/cold and vegetarian meals on campus. Meals are not provided on excursions. For those in host families, lunch is provided by the College from Monday to Friday, and by the host family at other times. Students with special religious or dietary requirements are catered for where notice is given at the application stage.
